We are seeking a leader to serve as the Director – Visual Merchandising. This role will be responsible for providing visual merchandising expertise for Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Retail. He/She will develop the overarching visual strategy, and provide segment support for site operations teams to enable consistent execution of the strategy in all retail locations, drive business growth and elevate the Guest experience. He/She will provide leadership and direction for functions including visual merchandising & in-store creative, signage, and standards development. Success in this role requires strong collaboration and partnering with an array of global stakeholders. This role can be based in Anaheim (preferred) or Orlando and will report to the Senior Vice President – Retail & Merchandising.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of overarching WDP&R visual merchandising strategy focused on innovative in-store presentations that support business objectives, elevate the Guest Experience and align with specific global market and site needs
  • Partner with segment site leadership and key stakeholders to formulate, strategize, and support local visual merchandising teams to enable an exceptional retail experience
  • Develops tools to increase knowledge and engagement around visual merchandising and leading visual teams. Creates content and training for tactics and strategies to ensure visual merchandising leaders and team members are supporting the overall strategy and maximizing business growth
  • Ability to communicate regions specific requirements and opportunities to global stake holders and propose solutions that maintain global brand integrity while meeting regional objectives
  • Maintain awareness of current trends in visual arts and merchandising, travel as necessary, and complete in-store site visits to observe store sets, production, trends and materials. Elevate execution and maintain brand expectations
  • Work closely with Product Design & Development team developing the assortment from concept through final product review
  • Proactively partner with site leadership and visual merchandising teams to address visual merchandising gaps and opportunities
  • Conducts site and location visits with key leaders focusing on visual merchandising changes and execution; act as the single point of contact and solicit store feedback on transition/event strategies in order to identify opportunities and solutions
  • Lead organizational and cultural change efforts needed to ensure new, innovative concepts, business practices, and technologies are fully adopted and integrated into the business

Basic Qualifications

  • 8+ years Visual Merchandising leadership experience, both domestic and global
  • Global view of visual merchandising strategies across all of retail, key visual merchandising trends and future outlook
  • Deep knowledge of store design, branding and presentation strategies/concepts; understanding of how each affects the customer experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop a strategic vision and enable the overarching strategy through a highly skilled team
  • Experience influencing key business partners, including senior leadership, without authority
  • Ability to operate in an ambiguous and rapidly changing work environment
  • Strong business, analytical and financial acumen with a proven track record of driving results.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and foster relationships with cross functional partners and a diverse set of stakeholders, lead in a collaborative style as well as communicate in an engaging impactful manner
  • Ability to formulate strategies to attract and retain world class talent through long-range succession planning and development
  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and lead complex, cross-functional teams
  • Skilled at embedding creative thinking and appropriate risk-taking into organizational culture

Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree required; degree in Visual Merchandising or Fine Arts preferred

Preferred Education

  • Masters degree
