The Estimator is responsible for producing various levels of construction project estimates in support of facility project planning. Primary focus is on conceptual estimates prior to the design of work. He/she will participate in project development, database comparison with actual costs, and review of contractor's Schedule of Values. He/she will drive the Change Management effort with the project team, including analysis of contractor detailed costs, and finalizing negotiations for settlement.

Responsibilities

  • Generate rough order of magnitude, conceptual, design development, and bid and construct estimates of probable cost for facility modifications, renovations, and new construction.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide budget estimates as needed.
  • Working understanding of estimating concepts and estimating software tools.
  • Build/develop project estimates in partnership with project management team.
  • Develop construction estimates for moderate, component level projects.
  • Analyze contractor pricing for directives and change orders.
  • Support the negations with the contractor and vendor in changes of the work.
  • Build key relationships with core team members and clients.
  • Support project teams with scope development, bid requirements, schedule of values, and contractual language.

Basic Qualifications

  • Working knowledge and experience in quantity surveying and cost estimating for general construction including some experience in Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing.
  • Working knowledge of contracting processes, negotiating, and legalities.
  • Working knowledge of facility design and construction methods, construction activity sequencing, schedule logic, and project planning skills.
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills, effective in relationship building.
  • Demonstrated computer skills and ability to structure, organize, and effectively utilize items within a database.
  • Experience using construction estimating software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Zero (0) to two (2) years of experience in commercial facilities construction industry desired, but not required.
  • Completion of an Internship or Co-op Program in an applicable discipline desired.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a 4-year college or university in Architecture, Engineering or Construction Management.
  • Requirement may be mitigated with additional years of applicable experience.
