Seamstress Fitter - Part Time

Job Summary:

A Seamstress Fitter works behind the scenes providing critical support to the Entertainment Department at the Disneyland® Resort. They perform repairs on costume pieces and full costumes, assist in building new costumes as required for Characters, Parades, and Special Events, and complete alterations for Entertainment and Resort Operations Costuming!

Responsibilities:

  • Complete basic sewing tasks daily including, but not limited to, putting in a zipper with a sewing machine, machine buttonholes, etc.
  • Perform daily repairs on Character, Parades, and Audio-Animatronic costumes including, but not limited to, repairing rips, replacing zippers, and changing/replacing trim
  • Assist Costumers with fittings and then alter costumes for Entertainment Cast Members in shows, special events, parades, and character roles and for some Resort Operations Costumes (e.g., replace zippers, make costumes smaller or larger to accommodate performer size, measure and sew hems)
  • Construct new costumes from a pattern for special events (i.e., pinning and cutting fabric, pinning pieces together and sewing either by hand or on a machine)
  • Use various industrial sewing machines, overlock machines, irons, steamers, needles, scissors, seam rippers, razor blades, etc. to complete alterations and repairs

Basic Qualifications:

  • You must be at least 18 years of age to be considered for this role
  • Must pass a basic sewing skills assessment
  • At least one year of experience operating industrial sewing machines
  • Strong knowledge of garment construction, fit, and design
  • Ability to cut from both patterns and markers
  • Takes accurate measurements (i.e., measurements with tape for length of skirts, sleeve lengths, torso measurements, etc.) and alter costumes accordingly
  • Experience with straight stitch and “overlock” (invisible stitching)
  • Knowledge of merrow and hemmer devices
  • Works with a variety of fabric types
  • Follows patterns and instructions
  • Self-directed to complete tasks independently
  • Can complete repetitious tasks while maintaining quality, very meticulous
  • Communicates well with Cast Members, management, and costumers

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with costumes in a theater or show production
  • Millinery experience
  • Knowledge in Hand beading work
  • Full Availability seven (7) days a week
  • Bilingual preferred

SCHEDULE AVAILABILITY
Our Theme Parks and Resort Hotels operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Must have flexible availability to work Sunday through Saturday, all shifts (i.e. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift) including holidays.
